Today brought in a solid $1,544 profit (6.6%) on the SPX 2/7 double calendar. While my automation was set to manage the position till expiry or delta-based triggers, I made a discretionary exit⦠again.

π§ Traderβs Dilemma
I promised myself Iβd trust the automation. But when I saw a 6.6% gain on a Fed week, my instincts kicked in. Historically, the backtest shows 4.2% average returns, so I told myself this was βbeating the system.β
But was it the right move?
Honestly, I donβt know. Was it a smart deviation based on macro risk? Or a lack of discipline? This is where psychology meets system design.
βοΈ What Iβm Telling Myself
βIn the long run, itβs about consistency β not perfection.β
Taking the 6.6% felt like locking in a great return ahead of volatility. But I also recognize that if I override the system too often, the edge can evaporate. One deviation becomes a habit. Thatβs what I must guard against.
Still, Iβm documenting it transparently here β wins, doubts, and all.
π Reflection
- β Trade structure was solid
- β Exit was profitable
- β Didnβt follow automation to the end
βWas it intuition or impulse? Only time will tell. But Iβm staying honest with myself β and with this challenge.β
